Committal rites for Ryel H. Wheeler were held in the Manning Cemetery this Thursday morning, with Rev. Harlan Kruse officiating. The Ohde ambulance went to Omaha Wednesday evening to get the body.
Mr. Wheeler, who had been ill for several years, passed away at the home of a daughter in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born in Salida, Colorado, on July 28, 1885, the son of George H. and Mary M. Ryel Wheeler, and received his education in Neola, Harlan, and Manning.
For several years he was cashier of the German Savings bank in Manning and was a member of the town's famous fire team. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge here.
He is survived by his wife, the former Cleta Frazer, who is now a sorority housemother at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln; three children: Mrs. Yancey Lewis (Dorothy), of Colorado Springs; Mrs. Oliver Allard (Virginia), of Seattle, Washington; Captain William Wheeler, who is stationed in Alaska; a brother, Leland, of Tacoma, Washington, and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Luella, Mrs. John Campbell.
Graveside services will be held here at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 25, 1949, under direction of the Ohde Funeral home.
Mr. Wheeler was cashier of the old German Savings Bank, now Manning Trust & Savings Bank.
He was born July 28, 1885, at Salida, Colorado, a son of George H. and Mary Matilda (Ryel) Wheeler. He received his education in schools at Neola, Harlan, and Manning.
After leaving school, he worked on a farm for two years and in a poultry house for a year, and the German Savings Bank in 1906, and later advanced to cashier. The Wheeler home is Lincoln, Nebraska.
Mr. Wheeler, who has been in ill health for several years, was visiting his daughter when he was stricken.
Survivors include the widow; (the former Cleta Frazer, Omaha), a housemother for a University of Nebraska Sorority, at Lincoln; two daughters, Mrs. Oliver (Virginia) Allard, Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Yancey (Dorothy) Lewis, Colorado Springs, Colorado; a son, Captain William Wheeler, stationed with the Army in Alaska; a brother, Lee, Tacoma, Washington; and two grandchildren.
A sister, Louella, who was the wife John Campbell of Manning, died some years ago.
