He moved with his parents to Audubon County, Iowa, in 1881 and had lived on the same farm ever since. In July 1892, he was united in marriage to Clara B. Garmire, one son, Winfred G. Newell, being the result of this.
He was a loving husband and father and an upright Christian man in every way. His death is a loss to the entire community. He was, in early manhood, converted and at the time of his death a member of the United Brethren Church.
Mr. Newell died February 5, 1909, after an illness of only one week, at the age of 43 years, 1 month, and 28 days.
He leaves to mourn his untimely end his wife and son, Winfred G. Newell, three sisters, Mrs. George H. Ryckman, of Hamilton, Canada; Mrs. L.M. Estes, of Melville Township, Audubon County, Iowa; Mrs. J.A. Graves, of Corlena, Texas; two brothers, William J. Newell, of Milestone, Canada; and Charles H. Newell, of Gray, Iowa; also scores of admiring friends.
The funeral was held from his late home in Lincoln Township, on February 7, at 10 o'clock, forenoon, conducted by the Rev. C.J. Stark, of Gray, Iowa, and interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery, at Audubon, Iowa.
