Unknown lady
LEAPS FROM A SECOND STORY WINDOW.
A Young Woman of Denison Comes to this City to Meet a Male Friend But, Instead, Meets
Pappa.
Manning had a small sensation Monday afternoon, when a young lady, who had run away from her home in Denison and come to this city, leaped into atmosphere from a second story window in Keil's hotel, lighting on the ground 20 feet below.
The young woman, who is about 18 years of age, of medium size and fairly good looking, arrived in Manning Monday morning in keeping with an engagement she had made with a married man, and for a purpose, it is supposed, that can be easily imagined without telling in print. But, unexpectedly to the young lady, pappa met her here instead of the other fellow.
It appears the father had traced his daughter to this city. Arriving here he visited the different hotels and finally learned that a woman answering his daughter's description was occupying a room on the second floor of Keil's hotel. The man, (who would not divulge his name) accompanied by the landlady, proceeded up stairs. The girl, recognizing her father's voice, locked the door to her room, pushed up the window and leaped out. A minute later she was picked up and carried to Dr. Moser's office, just across the street, where it was found that the girl had sustained no serious injuries. Her face and hands were slightly bruised, and she was somewhat stunned from the fall.
After the noon hour the father employed a livery rig and driver and started home with the girl, and this is the last heard of them. Whether it was the girl's purpose, in jumping, to put herself out of circulation or to escape, she would not say but it was, most likely, the latter.
The third party, who is to blame for all this, was in the city that day, so it is claimed but when or how he came or departed is not known. He is a man of a family and is said to be quite wealthy, by a party here who knows him.
