VERGIE WELCH
Vergie M. (Case) Welch, 90, of the 3000 block of Grand
Avenue died Friday, October 13, 2000, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center from
complications of a head injury. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First
United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Lanesboro Cemetery in Lanesboro.
Miss Welch was born in Aspinwall, August 23, 1910, daughter
of Charles and Edith (Waldemer) Case. She had lived in Des Moines since 1944.
She was a retired teacher for the Des Moines Schools. She
was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Iowa Society for Preservation of
Historical Landmarks, Daughters of the American Revolution, Ding Darling
Chapter of Izaak Walton League, Des Moines Women's Club, Des Moines Federation
of Women's Clubs, National Retired Teachers Association, National Education
Association, Terrace Hill Society, American Business Women's Association, Polk
County Historical Society, Rebekkah Lodge, Parliamentary Club, AARP, PEO, and TTT.
She volunteered many hours at Veterans Medical Center, Iowa Methodist Medical
Center, Wesley Acres, and Terrace Hill. She loved volunteer work and world travel.
Nieces and nephews survive.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Dunn's Funeral Home.
