The Rev. G.F. Gehlhar will officiate at funeral services Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel for Walter George Schafer, 76, retired Basalt and Kaiser Steel Machinist.
Walter died December 2, 1967, with burial in Tulocay Cemetery, Napa, California. Pallbearers will be Arthur, Frederick, Victor, and Donald Polzin, Aldwyn Dunker, and William B. Dillon.
Mr. Schafer died Saturday, December 2, 1967, at Kaiser Hospital, Vallejo.
A native of San Francisco, son of George and Elsie Schafer, he was born March 27, 1891. He was educated in Bakersfield and came to Napa in 1912.
He married Elsie K. Polzin, June 15, 1924, and they operated a ranch in the Carneros district until 1924.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by three sons, Walter Albert Schafer of Scott Field, Illinois, William Edward Schafer, and Robert Arthur Schafer, both of Sacramento, California; and 11 grandchildren.
Mr. Schafer was a member of the national and state retired teachers associations, and the Machinists Union.
