William Martens Of Manning Dies William Martens, 70, was found dead about 11 a.m. yesterday at his home. He was found by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dethlefs, neighbors. He apparently was stricken while working in his garden.

Survivors include his widow and four children: Louis, Harold, Harlan; Mrs. Jerry (Helen) Christiansen, Gray; two brothers, Gus, Carroll; Harry, Buck Grove, and a sister, Emelia (Mrs. Dick) Fonken. Nine grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Martens farmed near Manning. Later he worked on the Great Western Railroad until pensioned. For the past several years he has operated a truck garden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, at the Ohde Funeral home with the Rev. Harlan Kruse of the Presbyterian and the Rev. Brown Garlock of the Methodist churches officiating. A quartet, composed, of Martha (Mrs. Nick C.) Schrum, Emma (Mrs. Albert) Dietz, Ray Pratt, and Clifford M. Johnson, will sing, accompanied by Bonita (Mrs. Henry W.) Hagedorn.

Mr. Martens was born in Crawford County December 28, 1879, son of Willam Friedrich and Margaretha (Ewoldt) Martens. He was married June 20, 1907, to Anna Catharina Thomsen.

Funeral services for William Fred Martens, 70, will be held at the Ohde funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Brown Garlock and the Rev. Harlan Kruse in charge. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Martens was born December 28, 1879, in Crawford County, and died last Thursday morning while working in one of his gardens. He farmed near Manning and after leaving the farm was employed in railroad maintenance work.

He married Anna Catherina Thomsen, June 20, 1907.

Surviving are three sons: Louie and Harold of Harlan; Leroy of Omaha; a daughter, Helen (Mrs. Jerry) Christiansen of Gray; two brothers; Gus W. of Carroll; Harry Martens of Buck Grove; and a sister, Emelia (Mrs. Richard) Fonken, with whom he made his home. There are also nine grandchildren.
