Mayer Rites To Be in Manning Sunday, 2 P.M.
Funeral rites for William John Mayer, who died at his home here Thursday night, will be conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

The Rev. Alexander Wimberly, minister of the Presbyterian Church will officiate. Music will be furnished by a quartet composed of Martha (Mrs. Nick) Schrum, Emma (Mrs. Albert) Dietz, Herman Pahde, and Clifford M. Johnson, accompanied by Bonita (Mrs. Henry) Hagedorn.

Mr. Mayer, a retired farmer, died at 11:45 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 1940, at the age of seventy-nine years. His death, which was caused by heart disease, followed a ten-day illness.

Son of George and Rose (Shäffer) Mayer, he was born in Stuttgart, Wurttemberg, Germany, December 20, 1860, Mr. Mayer came to the United States in 1880 and located at Omaha, Nebraska. He was married in Omaha to Miss Anne Wolters.

In 1899, he came to Carroll County, having resided in Manning for the last thirty-two years.

Surviving with his wife are five daughters and one son: Milly (Mrs. Lynn) Castle, Minneapolis; Julia (Mrs. Richard D.) Baker, Lanark, Illinois; Elma Mayer Minneapolis; Irene (1st Francis Brenckle - 2nd William J. Carroll), Hot Springs, Arkansas; Claire Mayer, Phoenix, Arizona; and Milton J. Mayer, Manning; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Mayer was a member of the Evangelical Church.
