Glen Kusel WWII

Glen Allen Kusel was born in Carroll, January 11, 1926, son of Elsie Kusel.
In 1930 Elsie married Otto Schroeder.
Glen lived in the Westside, IA area graduating from West Side High School in 1944.
He was immediately inducted into the Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and took his basic training at Camp Hood, Texas. From there he was transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia where he took 4 week parachute training.
Glen was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. His tour of duty took him to England-France-Germany-Austria.
After the war he was stationed at Fort Benning. While still in the service he married Arlene Subbert of Carroll. They lived in Georgia 6 months.
After his discharge they returned to Iowa and settled in Manning where Glen took a job with Priebe Produce.
When Priebe went out of business, Glen started his own hatchery business. In 1962 he and Ross Graner formed a partnership and opened G & R Hatchery.
In 1970 the partnership dissolved and Glen went into dirt moving business under the name of Kusel Dozer Service. Glen retired in 1994.
Glen and Arlene have 4 children: Pamela, Connie, Jerilyn & Carlys. All 4 children graduated from Manning Schools.


Glen used 286 soup cans to make this US flag above.
He proudly displayed in on his lawn at 58 Center Street in 2002.

Glen needed clay fill-soil for various projects he had, so we had him push back the topsoil on this little knob, remove several feet of clay and then push the topsoil back over the knob.
You can see the Milwaukee Trestle and Manning to the south.
