In 1854 Friedrich Kusel, his wife and 2 children came to eastern Iowa from Prussia (now NE Germany) and started farming.

Friedrich & his family came to western Iowa in the 1870s and presently there is a 6th generation Kusel (Brad Kusel son of Barry), farming here in Carroll County
