Zion is presently blessed with four organists who assist with worship. Shown, from left are Susan Lamb, Fern Jensen, Carlys Stribe, and Crystal Bruhn.

Zion's Custodians

Through the years a number of people have provided custodial care for Zion's church homes. It is probably safe to say that Zion's first "unofficial" caretaker was Gertrude Ansorge who, as the pastor's wife, is remembered for doing anything that was needed for the church, including cleaning, stoking the furnace and ringing the bell.

Other members who are remembered as caretakers for Zion's house of worship include: Chris Kaiser, Fred Rutz, Ernest Kuhn, Alfred and Elsie Rix, Ted Paulsen, Roy Schrum, Ray and Eunice Friedrichsen, Ray and Leona Dammann, Delbert and Odessa Vinke, Velie and Rita Saunders, Ross and Darlene Graner, Russell and Joan Mohr.

Larry Mahnke and Darlene Graner presently provide this service to Zion.

A wide variety of duties have been handled by these servants through the years. A story, regarding custodian Ernest Kuhn, gives indication as to just how far reaching those duties sometimes were. Irene Jansen shared the following story.

She recalled that there was to be a Sunday School program at church and, as she and her husband, Harry, were taking their young son Randall to the program he told his parents that he was not going to be in the program. After arriving at the church Randall was delivered to his Sunday School room and Irene and Harry took their place in the pews. They noticed, after the chil-dren had proceeded in, that Randall could not be seen.

Following the program, Irene and Harry spotted Ernest Kuhn seated in a back pew of the church with young Randall in tow. They asked Ernest where he found the boy. Ernest replied, he was hiding under a table.

Church Secretary

Fern Jensen handles the day to day tasks that come to the office of the church secretary. Starting in August of 1984, it is a position she has held at Zion for the past 15 years.

Zion's Sons and Daughters

The ministry of Zion Lutheran Church has inspired many sons and daughters of the congregation to choose the Lord's work as their life's work. Praise God for the Christian teachers, pastors, directors of Christian education, and parish workers who have gone out from Zion to work in His Kingdom. Any attempt to identify all of these people would surely fail. May God continue His good work through these Christian leaders.
