Manning Cares!
December 24, 2020 update…

New to the caring responses to the needs of the community is the MANNING CARES FOOD BOX. The box is located along the alley south of the Manning City Hall. The alley is also the access to the Manning Food Pantry. The Food Box is the latest of caring responses of the C-3 partnership with Community Opportunities and the churches of the Manning community.
The Manning Cares Food Box is open to all community residents 24/7. No paperwork is needed and no questions are asked. The box will contain non-perishable food items, paper goods, personal hygiene items, and other assorted daily necessities. The food box will readily assist families in emergency or special need situations. C-3 food pantry volunteers will routinely clean and maintain the box.
Community citizens are also invited to contribute items to the food box at their convenience. Items routinely needed include: peanut butter, mac and cheese, cereal, cans of fruit or vegetables, soups, tissues, and toilet paper.
The caring response of the community has been especially evident during the pandemic. C-3 thanks the generous community donors for monetary donations to the food pantry. In addition, the local Fire Department coordinated the distribution of the local "Farmers to Families" food boxes. Fifty food boxes containing a variety of fresh food products were received for local distribution. The local school system regularly makes food items available to students and families in need. School classes and organizations have also collected food for the local pantry. Many other community members and businesses continue to respond to care for people in need due to pandemic and personal situations.
The local food pantry continues to be open Saturday mornings from 8-10 a.m. Appointments are suggested and can be arranged through Community Opportunities (712-792-9266; www.newopp.org). The food pantry is available to any members of the IKM-Manning communities. Applications and pantry visits are always confidential.
Manning cares in this Christmas season and in all seasons!

Main Street Manning To Participate In Global Initiative
"Giving Tuesday" On December 1

By Jean Voege, Main Street Manning Executive Director
Main Street Manning (MSM) will be one of over 47,000 non-profit organizations in the United States participating in "Giving Tuesday" on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. Giving Tuesday, held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, began in 2012 as a partnership between "92nd St. Y", a cultural and community center in New York City and the United Nations Foundation with a simple idea: create a day to do good.

Since then it has grown into a global movement of generosity that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world, one step at a time. The 2019 Giving Tuesday campaign raised $511 million in online donations in the United States alone. The total amount generated from Giving Tuesday campaigns since the program's inception exceeds $1 billion.

MSM participated in the first ever "Giving Tuesday Now" campaign in May 2020. Giving Tuesday Now, created by the Giving Tuesday organization, was an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. People from over 145 countries came together to present a united front of hope, generosity and kindness in a time when many were starting to face the challenges caused by the COVID 19 pandemic. Through the generosity of many donors, Main Street Manning's Giving Tuesday Now campaign raised over $6,000 that was used to help the organization continue its mission to support local businesses and community projects during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Donations received from the December 1 Giving Tuesday campaign will allow MSM to continue its initiative to preserve our downtown and ensure that it continues to be a vibrant, thriving community. In addition to supporting local businesses as the COVID 19 pandemic continues, proceeds from this campaign will be used toward the purchase of at least one new flower planter on Main Street as well as the purchase of spring flowers to beautify our downtown. More information about the Giving Tuesday opportunity can be found on Main Street Manning's Facebook page.

As a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, donations to Main Street Manning (MSM) are tax deductible. Donations to support the 2020 Giving Tuesday campaign can be sent to Main Street Manning - GT, PO Box 261, Manning, IA 51455.

For more information about Giving Tuesday or how you can become involved with the activities of Main Street Manning, call 712 655-6246 or send an email to mainstmanning@gmail.com

Manning Reaps Rewards From Refresh Manning Trust
By Pam Kusel

Over the last six years the Refresh Manning Trust has infused nearly $20,000 into the community benefitting over a dozen organizations and resources for residents. It has enhanced local childcare, recreation, brought community improvements, and support of the local food pantry and library.

Established in 2012 as a perpetual fund designed to support the vitality of Manning, it accepts donations year around and each November invites non-profit 501(3)c organizations within the Manning city limits to submit applications for annual disbursements made in January. Over the years the awards have grown from $1000 in 2014 to $5600 due to ongoing donations.

In 2019 Manning Parks and Rec was awarded $1160 for the city park, Wolf Care After School program was awarded $1160, the Hausbarn-Heritage Park was awarded $1120 for technology, Main Street Manning received $1000 for a public address system that can be used by community organizations and $1160 was also awarded to Main Street Manning for the downtown streetscape project.

Applications are now being accepted for this year's awards which total $7000. Grant applications are available online at manningia.com/refresh-manning-trust.html. Applications are due December 3.

Donations to the Refresh Manning Trust Fund provide a 25 percent credit on Iowa's state income taxes and various levels of deductions on your federal taxes (depending on your federal tax bracket).

The Refresh Manning Trust Fund is administered by the Community Foundation of Carroll County (CFCC). Donations can be sent to CFCC, Iowa Savings Bank, Box 967, Carroll, IA 51401. Checks should be made out to CFCC. Put "Refresh Manning Trust" on the memo line. The smallest allowable donation is $100, and 100 percent of the money is reinvested in the community.

It is a gift designed to grow, benefit future generations and benefit the greater Manning community for decades to come. If you have any questions, contact Main Street Manning at 712 655-6246.
