Gladys Bernice Asmus was born August 12, 1920, in Audubon County, the daughter of William G. and Elizabeth (Jurgens) Asmus.
She was baptized on November 28, 1920 and confirmed on June 23, 1935 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township, Audubon County.
On January 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Herman J.J. Sonksen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Audubon County.
The couple farmed for one year in Audubon County before farming in Carroll County for 24 years. They moved to Manning in 1965 where
Gladys worked as a clerk in a hardware store. In November 1972, Gladys and Herman moved to Early, Iowa, to continue Herman's work
on a carpentry crew.
Herman & Gladys has four children: Vernon, Joyce Warnke, Donna Davis, and Debra Sonksen
