Robert Hudson

Hunter and Gladys Jacoby, Jean, Robert, Nellie and Paul Hudson

Taken from the 2006 Manning Quasqui history book:
Since the printing of the 1981 Manning Centennial History book much has been discovered about the ancestors of Robert "Bob" and Jean and their 2 daughters, Mary "Ging" and Barbara "Barb".

Bob, the son of Paul Manlove and Nellie Lee (LaJoie) Hudson, was born in 1920. The Hudson line has been traced thus far to Bob's 2nd great grandfather, Dickerson, who was born in South Carolina in 1794, exact location yet to be found. On Bob's mother's side, LaJoie, his 2nd great grandfather, Louis, was born in Parish Masiqionge, Quebec, Canada, in 1778.

Jean, daughter of Albert Hunter and Gladys Vastina (Antle) Jacoby, was born in 1928. The Jacoby line has been traced and verified back to Leiselheim, Baden, a state in the southwest corner of present day Germany where her 3rd great grandfather, Johan Georg, was born in 1753. Her mother's side, Antle, has been traced back to Fredrick County Virginia where her 3rd great grandfather, Henry, was born in 1779.

These are only 4 of the many family names that have been researched. At the present time the most is known about the Jacoby line. Jean's great grandfather, Johannes, came to America in April 1854, with his wife and 2 very young daughters. They landed in New York City and immediately traveled west to Hendricks County, Indiana. In 1859, again the family traveled west to Northwest Missouri, Gentry County, where they remained and raised a large family of 12 children. Bob and Jean were both born on farms in Gentry County, Missouri, and the same physician delivered them. Bob graduated from Stanberry Missouri High School and the University of Missouri. He served 4 years in the Army, 25 months in Europe. He was in the bluegrass seed business with his father for 24 years. He also worked for H&R Block, J&S Feed, the State of Iowa as an auditor and Farm Journal. Jean graduated from King City Missouri High School and Northwest Missouri State College (now NWMSU). Jean taught business in the Stanberry, Missouri, school system and English in the Rosendale, Missouri, school system before the family came to Manning in 1964.

Ging and Barb, both born in St. Joseph, Missouri, 1953 and 1956, and both graduated from Manning High School, 1971 and 1974, all dates respectively. Ging graduated from Northwest Missouri State College (now NWMSU) and taught school in Logan, Iowa, for 2 years. Barb attended Northwest Missouri State College (now NWMSU) for 2 years and then went to work for Country Kitchen.

To update the current family - Bob died in 1995 and Jean retired in 1990 after teaching business in the Manning Community School system for 26 years. Ging has been working for Home Mutual Insurance Association in Manning since 1984. Barb now lives in Hiawatha, Iowa, working for Ryans, after living in Keokuk, Iowa, for almost 25 years.
