Melvin Hammer

Melvin Hammer Memorial Sunday
Memorial services will be held for Melvin J. Hammer in connection with the regular service at Zion Lutheran Church next Sunday morning. The services will begin at 10:45 a.m. Melvin died of wounds received in battle on February 2, 1945, while fighting with the armed forces in Burma.
Melvin Hammer, born October 28, 1924, is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William and Clara (Ress) Hammer of Denison, and by the following brothers and sisters: Elizabeth, Betty, Louella, Arthur, Donald, and Marcella; by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gustav and Wilhelmine (Fischer) Ress of Manilla and by his grandmother, Mrs. John Hammer of Manning.
He entered the service of his country on April 3, 1944, and left for overseas duty in September of last year. His basic training was obtained at Ft. Riley, Kansas, and he achieved the rank of Private with the 475th Infantry.
Melvin attended the Lutheran School of Denison and was confirmed in the local Lutheran Church on April 10, 1938.

Melvin Hammer and Marion (Jochimsen) Ream were 1st cousins.
