Like most Manning area old-time families, they branch out into dozens and more names...with the Vinkes connected to Joachimsen, Jansen, Kuhl, Wiese, Kruse, Schroeder, etc., but for this tribute I'm just staying with the Vinke name for pictures and information...

Loretta, Gary, Ralph

Gary Ralph Vinke was born on July 3, 1942, to Ralph and Loretta (Ewoldt) Vinke in Carroll, Iowa. Gary was baptized on June 20, 1943, and later confirmed on April 14, 1957. He was currently a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. Gary was raised in the Manning and Gray, Iowa, areas attending Hayes No. 8 Country School, Crawford County, and graduated with the class of 1960 from Manning High School. Following his graduation, he worked at various jobs including: the Manning Creamery, Farmland Meat Packing, and later at the Aspinwall Co-Op and Fremont Grain Inspection. Gary was united in marriage to Joyce (Otto) Vinke on April 27, 1963, in Manilla, Iowa. They were blessed with four sons. After their sons were raised, the couple moved to Pisgah, Iowa.

Gary enjoyed gardening, yard work and mowing. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and feeding and watching the birds. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Gary had a passion for riding and breaking horses, and he enjoyed teaching his sons how to break and ride too. Gary raised miniature ponies in his retired years. He also loved to kind-heartedly tease his grandkids.

Gary died unexpectedly at his home in Pisgah on October 31, 2021, at the age of 79 years three months, and 28 days.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, son, Lynn Vinke and parents-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 58 years of Pisgah; three sons, Brian (Kerry) of Ute, Craig (Susan) of Glenwood, Iowa, Todd (Carol) of Milford, Iowa; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two siblings, Gale (Linda) Vinke of Manning and Cheryl (Frank) Petsche of Goddard, Kansas; brother-in-law, Duane (Kay) Otto of Manning and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 5th at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute.
