Larry Carl, son of John and Loretta (Renze) Schultes, was born August 31, 1945, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up south of Templeton and graduated from Kuemper Catholic School in 1963.

On June 30, 1963, Larry enlisted with the Iowa Army National Guard as an ammunition specialist. From November 4, 1963, to May 4, 1964, Larry completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He served with the 3657th Ordinance Company in Audubon until being honorably discharged in 1969.

Larry then worked for Joyce Lumber in Templeton and as manager of the Ralston Coop in Jefferson. In 1969, he began farming east of Templeton and then purchased a farm southeast of Manning in 1970.

On April 28, 1973, Larry was united in marriage with Pat Brouillette at Holy Family Catholic Church in Council Bluffs. Four children were born to this union. Larry and Pat farmed for 35 years. Larry also drove truck on the side, mostly for Manning Ag Center and Dedham Coop. In 2004, the couple moved to Carroll, and he continued driving part time.

Throughout his life, Larry was a member of Sacred Heart Church in both Templeton and Manning. Larry loved music, was a member of the Men's Church Choir in Templeton and Der Manning Liederkranz, and he sang at numerous weddings and events over the years. Many evenings were spent with Pat playing the piano and Larry practicing a new song. Larry enjoyed listening to the Statler Brothers and watching westerns. Larry loved sports, especially baseball, and enjoyed playing and watching sports with his family. He cherished the time spent with his family, playing cribbage and card games with his grandchildren, visiting at family gatherings, and cracking up over a good "dad joke," probably one that he had told.

On Saturday, June 4, 2022, Larry passed away unexpectedly at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. He was 76 years, 9 months, and 4 days of age.

Larry is survived by his wife Pat Schultes of Carroll; four children: Lisa Wolf and husband Matt of Johnston; Mary Kay Todd and husband Kiley of Holstein; Matthew Schultes and wife Sarah of Cedar Falls; and Jennifer Steinkamp and husband Jason of Wall Lake; 12 grandchildren: Gavin, Aaron, Brennan and Callie Wolf; Morgan, Carter and Easton Todd; William and Emily Schultes; and Peyton, Logan and Weston Steinkamp; his siblings: Leroy (Virginia) Schultes of Templeton; Marvin (Dee) Schultes of Hastings, Nebraska; and Marilyn (Dennis) Vonnahme of Breda; his in-laws Dan (Claudette) Brouillette of Laurel, Montana and Jan (Leo) Lappe of Carroll; and by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Pat's parents Wesley and Dorothy Brouillette; a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Robert Bruch, and a sister-in-law Betty Brouillette.
