Oklahoma Is Coming To Manning Friday Night
Manning Monitor April 1, 2004

This Friday night, April 2nd at 7:00 p.m. the Manning High School Vocal Department is proud to present one of the most popular and influential musicals in the American theater, Oklahoma!
The show had its first performance on Broadway in 1943 and ran for 2,212 performances! Oklahoma! was the first collaboration between the dynamic duo of composer Richard Rogers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II.
Oklahoma! The show is set in the Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) in the early 1900s, just before statehood. The story was based on the play Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs. The plot is basically a romantic triangle involving a young cowboy named Curly McLain, a villainous handyman named Jud Fry, and a pretty farm girl named Laurey Williams. Also a comic subplot involves Laurey's friend Ado Annie Carns, cowboy Will Parker and a traveling peddler Ali Hakim.
The cast for Oklahoma! includes Andy Stessmann as Curly, Holly Feser at Aunt Eller, Robyn Hacker as Laurey, Rusty Rohe as Will, Scott Eickman as Jud, Kelsey Feser as Ado Annie, Jarod Trecker as Ali Hakim, Chris Willenborg as Fred, Erin Dammann as Gertie Cummings, Davianne Rotert as Kate, Dereck Hilsabeck as Cord Elam, Ben Danner as Joe, Benjamin Lorenzen as Tom (Farmer), Amber Vonnahme as Vivian, Samantha Schultz as Girl 2, Matt Luensmann as Ike Skidmore, Farfum Landroma as Slim, Scott Eickman as Jud Fry, Jessica Kienast/Tara Jahn as Ellen, Matt Mikkelsen as Andrew Carnes, Chris Willenborg as Mike, Benjamin Lorenzen as Sam, Melissa Weets as Virginia and Lindsey Croghan as Girl.
Set design of the play was done by Ms. Book and Davianne Rotert, lighting will be provided by David Vetter and Sadie Ronek, stage crew hands, Heather Byrd, Nick Fara and Brian Fogleman. Set construction, Davianne Rotert, Dereck Hilsabeck, Sadie Ronek, Andrew Stessman, Kris Bunker, Ken Massey, Farfum Landroma, Ashley Croghan, Scott Eickman and Glen Eickma. Most of the costumes were provided by the Nodaway High School.
Plan now to support the fine arts this Friday with a night full of surprises and delight!

Andrew Stessman's fondest school memories were performing with his friends in Oklahoma and Bye, Bye Birdie. Who could forget Scott Eickman in an Elvis wig or a bikini in Give my Regards to Broadway. Andrew remembers auditioning for the parts in each play with Scott, Kenny, and Farfum. They argued with the directors about who could do certain characters the best. In the end the directors usually agreed with them because they performed so often together, they knew what they were comfortable doing.
