William and Phyllis Opperman

William and Phyllis (Musfeldt) Opperman were married in Manning September 7, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church. Parents were Emil and Mabel (Dietz) Opperman and Louie and Laura (Schroeder) Musfeldt.
Bill and Phyllis have spent nearly all their lives in the Manning area. Both graduated from the Manning School. After their marriage they lived in Ames where Bill graduated from ISU with a degree in Farm Operation. Following college Bill was inducted in the army serving most of his time at Fairchild AFB, Spokane, Washington and was discharged in 1956. They farmed north of Manning for 34 years and moved into Manning in 1992.
They have five children: Debra, a pharmacist living in San Diego, California, married Ronald Determan. They have two children, Brian and Laura; Janis is employed by Cardinal Health and lives in Omaha, Nebraska; Robert, a mortgage banker, lives in Rockford, Illinois, married Kathleen Erbsen. They have two children, Justin and Megan; Beth, a 5th grade teacher in Geneseo, Illinois, married Steven Kastorff. They have two children, Paul and Andrea; Paul is a mechanical engineer living in Santa Rosa, California.s.o. Paula Connors.
Bill and Phyllis have been active in local organizations. Bill serves as treasurer of Masonic Lodge, is active in American Legion and on the ceremonial team. His hobby is fishing. Phyllis is active in church activities, P.E.O. and American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobby is sewing, especially for missions, prayer quilts, and Veterans Homes.
