I was also recently contacted by a fellow from Hamburg, Germany. He had some relatives who immigrated to the Manning area...Musfeldt and those who married into this family such as Anthony, and the obscure name of Nottelmann, which I've been struggling with the original/correct spelling.
Having started my web page in 1996, I had always hoped more folks from Germany would contact me to help with the immigrants who came to this area, but sadly, just like my requests for help from Manning connected
people, the pleas go pretty much without a response.
BUT this fellow from Germany has really been a BIG help and I really appreciate it.
He sent me scans of old German baptismal documents and other information that expands
on several Manning surnames.
For instance Musfeldt was changed from Musfeld, either once they immigrated to the US, or shortly before coming to the US.
One of the earliest spellings was Müßfeld, also spelled Muessfeld.
I don't have time right now to display those documents to show the original spelling and variations, but
it is very helpful when people from Germany and here in the US share what they have with me so I can add it to my ever-growing Manning Historical Database, where
that information will be archived long after we are all gone.
Here is the translation provided by the fellow from Hamburg.
Here is his first contact with me...
This is another picture from the Homemakers Club...
I'm fairly sure this is Juan
He was probably a guest speaker for the club
Juan Maranon-Loor - 1968-69 AFS student from Ecuador
Host parents: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baker
Anyone from MHS 1969 willing to help confirm this is Juan?
Here is another club picture - after a while, I go bonkers trying to compare other pictures and remember faces and names from decades ago.
So hopefully someone out there will help me...
