John L. Ramsey, Jr.
John L. "Jack" Ramsey, Jr. enlisted into the U.S. Air Force August of 1965 at Omaha, Nebraska. He took his basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas. He went to Lowery AFB in Colorado for his technical training for Munitions Maintenance. From there he went to Homestead AFB in Florida. In May of 1967 he left Homestead and went to U-Tapao, Thailand for one year.
He returned in May of 1968. From there he went to Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina where he was honorably discharged in January of 1969.
He received the following decorations and citations: Air Force Commendation Medal (for Meritorious Service as a Munitions Loading Team member at U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand from June 4, 1967, through May 25, 1968. During this period Sgt. Ramsey displayed outstanding initiative, devotion to duty, professional job knowledge and skill in establishing facilities and successfully completing munitions pre-loading operations on Strategic Air Command's B 52 air craft flying in support of allied forces in the Republic of Vietnam; National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Marksmanship Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Overseas Short Tour Ribbon.

Three Generations of Ramseys Attend Veterans Supper
For the first time in the John L. Ramsey, Sr. family, John and his sons and grandson were together to attend the annual Veteran's Legion Supper held at the American Legion Hall in Manning, Iowa on November 7, 1998. John L. Sr. served in the Army from February 1942 to November 1942 in North Carolina. At that time he was given a medical discharge. His sons John Jr. served in the US Air Force from August 1965 through January 1969, Charles served in the US Navy from 1966 through 1970; Lynn Dean served in the US Air Force from 1968 through 1988; his grandson Todd, son of John Jr. entered the Air Force in 1986 and is still serving.
