Services for Russell Marion Armentrout will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Pauley Home for Funerals, with interment in the Harlan Cemetery.
Russell was born at Botna September 19, 1917, son of Marion and Nettie (Mockler) Armentrout, graduated from Irwin High School in 1936, after which he attended AIB School in Des Moines and the Reppert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, Indiana. He entered the auction business with his father, Marion Armentrout, of Harlan.
He was married March 17, 1941, to Bonnie Mae Nelson, and they have one son, Randall, born January 10, 1943. Another son, Roger Marion Armentrout was born January 3, 1942, and died February 21, 1942.
Russell entered the Army in January 1943, and left for overseas the same year in June. While in the United States he spent three months in Fort Riley, Kansas, and received additional training at Ft. Bliss, El Paso, Texas. Overseas he spent several months in Australia and was transferred to New Guinea.
He was killed in action March 20, 1944, on the island of Los Negros, one of the Admiralty Islands north of New Guinea. He was with the First Cavalry Division.
His body was brought to Harlan from the U.S. Armed Forces Cemetery at Manila, Philippine Islands.
JOHN ZANGERLE FUNERAL
The body of Sgt. John M. Zangerle, of Portsmouth, is expected to arrive at the Schack funeral home,
Harlan, Wednesday. The date of the funeral has been tentatively set for Thursday, at Portsmouth.
Sgt. Zangerle was the son of Mrs. Crescentia Zangerle, Portsmouth. He was graduated from Defiance High School, and entered the service in 1942. He was killed in action at Manila, P.I., February 15, 1945.
