Clifford Frank Hacker Family
Clifford was born October 26, 1924, in Templeton, son of Wendelin and Helen (Berg)
Hacker. He graduated from Manning High School in 1944, and then served in the
U.S. Army 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division. Returning from service December
1945, Clifford went into partnership with his father.
In 1958, he purchased his father's half of the business; then in December of 1974 went out of business. Clifford is now employed by Case Power and Equipment out of Carroll.
On June 13, 1950, Clifford married Anna Mae Thielen, daughter of Frank and Anna (Wieland) Thielen, at St. Mary's Church, Willey, Iowa. In 1956, they purchased a 44-acre farm, where they raised six children (four daughters and two sons).
Vickie attended DMAAC in Carroll, where she graduated as an LPN. Vickie married Robert Boes on April 30, 1976. They live in Carroll where she is employed at the Carroll Medical Center as a nurse. Robert is employed at Safeway as produce manager.
Kristie graduated from Manning High School in 1972 and attended DMAAC in Ankeny, where she received an Associate in Arts Degree in Child Development. On February 12, 1977, Kristie married Lenus Borkowski. They live near Manning where they are engaged in farming. They have one son, Lucas LaVerne.
Jane received her Associate Degree in Social Services from Iowa Western Community College at Council Bluffs in 1978. September 24, 1976, Jane married Kerry Joens; they now live in Omaha, Nebraska, with their two daughters, Wendy Mae, and Penny Lynn. Kerry is serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Weather Forecaster. Both Jane and Kerry graduated from Manning High School in 1975.
Nancy graduated from Manning High School in 1979.
Craig is a senior in Manning High School, and Gregory is a junior.
In 1974, Cliff, Anna Mae, and family hosted a foreign exchange student (AFS) from Brazil, Marcus Paes.
Mass of the Christian burial was celebrated this morning, Monday, July 3, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with the Rev. James McCormick presiding. Lector was Lucas Borkowski. Gift bearers were Mitchell and Colton Hacker. Servers were Brad Steffen and Tyler and Tessa Sporrer. Soloist was Robyn Hacker, Eucharistic ministers were Amy Borkowski and Ray and Vickie Thielen.
Casket bearers were Lucas Borkowski, Marcus Borkowski, Nicholas Joens, Dominic Julick, Jason Strader, Chad Kastner, and Travis Borkowski.
Honorary casket bearers were Sam Wiese, Bernard Wieland, Daryl Reiman, LaVern Deen, and Kenny Jensen.
Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors by the Dedham American Legion.
Sharp Funeral Home of Carroll was in charge of arrangements.
A son of Wendeline George and Helen (Berg) Hacker, he was born October 26, 1924, at Templeton, graduated from Manning High School in 1944 and spent most of his life in the Templeton and Manning communities.
He entered the Army and served in the 9th Infantry in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged in December 1945.
He and Anna Mae Thielen were married June 13, 1950, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Willey.
After military service Mr. Hacker went into the farm implement repair business with his father. He purchased the business in 1956 and added Case farm implements.
The business was sold in December 1974 and Mr. Hacker began working for J.I. Case Company, later known as Reuter Red Power in Carroll, as a master mechanic until retirement.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and Dedham American Legion and an honorary life member of the Templeton Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Hacker enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, tinkering in his shop, spending winters in Arizona and helping his son Craig, with his business, Independent Repair.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae, of Carroll; six children: Vickie Boes and husband Robert, of Carroll, Kristie Borkowski and husband Lenus, of Manning, Jane Joens and husband Kerry of Bellevue, Nebraska, Nancy Hacker and special friend Scott Harrison of Boone, Craig Hacker and wife Carla of Manning, and Gregory Hacker and special friend Cindy Von Ahn of Carroll; 12 grandchildren: Lucas Borkowski and wife Amy, Travis Borkowski and wife Megan, Marcus Borkowski, Wendy Strader and husband Jason, Penny Kastner and husband Chad, Nicholas Joens and wife Adriana, Dominic Julick, Melissa Blevins, Robyn Hacker, Brittany Hacker, Mitchell Hacker, and Colton Hacker; a foreign exchange student, Marcus Paes, of Brazil; and two sisters: Virginia Janning of Lake View and Helen Lee David of Carroll; brothers and sisters-in-law: Robert McDonald of Carroll, Ruth Hacker of Austin, Texas, Mary Hacker of Davenport, Angeline Schoeppner of Carroll, Ron and Sue Thielen of Perry, Helen Thielen of Carroll, and Alice Thielen of Carroll; two aunts, Anna Hacker of Carroll and Ida Hacker of Harrison, Arkansas; and special friends, LaVern and Jackie Deen, of Carroll.
Mr. Hacker was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Virgil, Edmund, and Maurice Hacker; two sisters: Harriet McDonald and Glenus Marie Hacker; and five brothers-in-law: Urban Janning, Leslie David, Charles Thielen, Franklin Thielen, and Merle Schoeppner.
