FURLOUGH
Ed Musfeldt, who is stationed in California, is enjoying a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Musfeldt.
Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa with Tom Musfeldt, Sam Musfeldt, Mike Nystrom, Tom Prince, Marc Nieland and Donald M. Nieland as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Kenneth Ewoldt, Warren Peterson and Alvan Hansen. Military Honors were by Emil Ewoldt Post 22 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517, both of Manning. Edward, son of John and Minnie Hell Musfeldt, was born June 11, 1917 on the family farm near Manning. After attending country school he attended Manning High School.
Ed served in the United States Army during World War II.
After his discharge he was united in marriage with Bertha Rose Henney in Pennsylvania. They moved to Manning where Ed operated the DX bulk plant and tank wagon service. After Bertha's death in 1956 Ed continued to live in Manning.
On January 4, 1959 Ed was united in marriage with Carol Prince at Mt. Pleasant. They lived in Manning until July of 1961 when they moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Ed worked with Champlin Oil Company and then sold institutional groceries and auto parts until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Omaha and the American Legion Post #1 in Omaha. During his retirement years Ed thoroughly enjoyed his 10 year old Pomeranian, Teddy.
Ed was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1988, however he enjoyed life until December of 1993 when his health began to fail. He died on Monday, January 31, 1994 at Bergan Mercy Care Center, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 20 days. Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and John Musfeldt; a sister, Melinda Johannsen; and two brothers-inlaw, Edmund Gaskill and Herman Johannsen.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Omaha, Nebraska; two brothers: Albert Musfeldt and his wife, Arlene, of Manning and Robert Musfeldt and his wife, Elizabeth, of Chiefland, Florida; a sister, Elda Gaskill, of Audubon; two sisters-in-law, Lydia Musfeldt of Manning and Ida Musfeldt of Manning; his mother-in-law, Glennie Prince, of Carroll; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ed Musfeldt, Jimmy Albert Meet Ed says he received all the football scores and happening around town from Ruth Musfeldt. He says he and Jimmy had a four hour talk when they met. Meets Gordon Gammack In Wednesday's Des Moines Register, the Register's correspondent, Gordon Gammack, who is with the American forces in France, writes the following: "On today's Cooks tour I bumped into two Iowans with an armored outfit-Privates (f.c.) Edward Musfeldt of Manning and Robert Roorda of Pella. They also were pleased by the swift advances." Manning Monitor article------ 1945
