FINISHES BASIC TRAINING

Florine Johanna Stangl, Seaman Second Class, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George
Stangl, Dedham, Iowa., has completed her basic training and indoctrination
course at the Naval Training School for WAVES, the Bronx, New York, and is
proceeding to Hospital Corps School, U.S. Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Maryland,
for further Instruction. Before she entered the service, Seaman Stangl was
employed as packer in the Remington Arms Company, Denver, Colorado. She
attended St. Joseph's school, Dedham, and St. Angela Academy, Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Deacon Gary Schon officiating. Music for the service will be by Sue Moore. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5 - 7 P.M. on Tuesday evening. Pall bearers will be Flo's Grandchildren. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the Merle Hay Post of the Glidden American Legion. Born on May 10, 1920, near Coon Rapids, Iowa, she was the daughter of George and Clara (Hoffman) Stangl. She grew up on her family's farm and attended Dedham School. She attended St. Angela's Academy and later enlisted in the United States Navy as a WAVE. She served in the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD as a Pharmacist's Mate. She was married to John Lohmann on January 8, 1951, at in Ogden, Iowa. The couple lived in Dedham until 1954 when they moved to Coon Rapids. In 1956, John and Flo moved to Glidden where they raised their five children. Flo worked at Boomsmas Egg Plant and McNaught's Grocery Store for many years. She was active in the Glidden American Legion Auxiliary of which she had served in many capacities. In 2009, Flo was privileged to go on an honor flight to Washington D.C. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, going to the casino, bowling, golfing and spending time with her family.
Flo is survived by her husband John of Glidden; three daughters: Janine Allbritton and her husband David of Post Oak Bend, Texas; Joyce Wright and her husband Steve of Benedict, Nebraska; and Judy Beyer and her husband David of Carroll; a son John Lohmann, Jr. (Laurel Albright) of Glidden; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a brother Millard Stangl and his wife Marie of Lincoln, Nebraska; a sister-in-law Rita Stangl of Denver, Colorado; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Flo was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Jan Squibb and her husband Doug, and three brothers: Norman, Donald, and Wilbur in infancy.
