Dr. Merlin R. Wyatt


Dr. Wyatt was inducted into the Army Air Force on September 16, 1942. In 1943 he was commissioned as Captain in the medical division of the Army Air Force and received his flight surgeon training in Santa Ana, California, and San Antonio, Texas. He was transferred to Randolph Field, Texas, where he took a course in Aviation medicine. In 1944 he went to Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland, where he completed a course for Army Medical Corps officers and Naval Medical officers on Chemical Warfare. While in DeRidder, Louisiana, he received his appointment from Washington as Flight Surgeon. Merlin received his discharge from the Army Medical Corps at Shreveport, Louisiana. He returned to service in the Army Air Corps and attained the rank of Major.

Dr. Merlin Wyatt, Captain
Word has been received here that Dr. Merlin Wyatt, formerly of Manning, has been commissioned as Captain in the medical division of the Army Air Force. Captain Wyatt has been stationed in California for several months.


Captain M. R. Wyatt To Randolph
Capt. M. R. Wyatt, former Manning doctor, now in the medical division of the air corps, writes that he received his Captains commission recently and will now go to Randolph Field Texas to take the course in Aviation medicine, a six weeks course, followed by another course of six weeks at another base.

Capt. Wyatt received his commission just 7 months after he entered the service.
It is getting warm in the Calif. desert now and they are anxious to get out for awhile.
He sends his note of appreciation, for the paper.

Chemical Warfare Training
Captain Merlin R. Wyatt has been stationed at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland, where he just completed a course for Army Medical Corps officers and Naval medical officers given on Chemical Warfare.
The subjects studied during the four week course ranged from offensive and defensive tactics of gas warfare to the prevention and treatment of gas casualties.


Flight Surgeon
Captain M. R: Wyatt of Manning, now stationed at DeRidder La., recently received his appointment from Washington as Flight Surgeon.
Captain Wyatt ceived Flight Surgeon's training at San Antonio, Texas and at Santa Ana, California. He has also taken special training in Chemical Warfare at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland and Orlando, Florida.
He has been in the service since Sept. 16, 1942.

Captain Wyatt Gets Discharge from Army
Mrs. M. R. Wyatt left Monday to join her husband, Capt. Merlin Wyatt, at Shreveport, La., where Capt. Wyatt received his discharge from the medical corps of the army. Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt expect to visit with relatives in Dallas, Tex., before returning to Manning.
Marilyn Wyatt is spending the time with her grandparents in Wahoo, Neb. and Billy is with his grandmother, Mrs. W. O. Wyatt here.


DR. WYATT NOW MAJOR
Dr. Merlin Wyatt has been commissioned major in the army air corps and is now on terminal leave for three months.
Maj. and Mrs. Wyatt and Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Martens are taking a trip to Texas. The group is returning to Manning the last of this week.

Merlin R. Wyatt, M.D., 90, died December 4, 1996. Father of Marilyn Mohr of Colorado and William Wyatt of Nebraska: eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive; brother of Lester Wyatt of Iowa, Clara Martens of Iowa, and Louise Nordby of Washington.
He was preceded in death by wife Helen, and sister, Vera Rinderhagen.
He was a WWII Army Air Force Veteran serving as major and flight surgeon.
Memorial Service 10:30 a.m. Friday December 6, 1996, at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with Father C.W. Odell officiating. Donations to the Church of the Holy Spirit, "co" of Treasurer John Tooroian, 7225 E. Sylvane, Tucson, AZ 85710 would be appreciated.
