Harry Porter


Harry Porter, Jr.
Harry Edward Porter, Jr. was born March 31, 1916, in Manning, Iowa, to Harry Edward and Nellie Irene (Dillingham) Porter. He was an Army veteran and fought at Omaha Beach, in the European Campaign, and in the Philippines. He was recalled to active duty for the Korean conflict, and retired as a captain in the Reserves in 1958.

He married Effie Violet Keiler February 8, 1956, in Sioux City.

He was a U. S. Postal Service clerk for 33 years, retiring in 1977.

Harry died June 11, 1992 and Mrs. Porter died December 18, 1984, in Sioux City; both are buried in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. He had been a member of the American Legion Monahan Post 64 since 1946.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Keiler and Ed and his wife, Mary Keller, all of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Phyllis and Shell Drummond of Braidon, Florida; an uncle and aunt, Casey and Katie Porter of Sanford, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Rainie Porter, of Midland, Michigan; four grandsons, Ed Keller, III, and Brett, Bradley, and Davon Keller; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Porter.
