Lt. Lee Rocksien Teaching Lt. Lee Rocksien In Georgia Lt. Lee Rocksien sends a notice of change of address to Camp Stewart Georgia where he is still teaching searchlight material in the, officers' school. He states that spring is in its advanced stage there --- flowers, are in bloom, trees are leafed out and it gets plenty warm during the day, in the 80s. He sends his regards to Manning friends. Word was received here that Lt. Lee Rocksien suffered a heart attack on August 29th and has been confined to the Walter Reed General hospital in Washington, D. C. He was to have left for overseas duty the following day. Lt. Lee Rocksien Succumbs To Heart Illness The body of Lt. Lee Rocksien, formerly of Manning, will arrive here this morning from Washing ton, D. C., where he passed away at the Walter Reed hospital Monday noon. Burial will be conducted under the direction of the Ohde Funeral home here but no arrangements have been made. Lt. Rocksien, 37, was stricken with a heart attack about two months ago as he was preparing to leave on a special mission to the Orient. He was taken to the hospital where he had been a patient since that time. Lt. Rocksien was born and reared in Manning and was graduated from the local high school in 1925. He received his B. S. and M. S. degrees at the University of Iowa. At the time of going into the army he was a professor of chemistry in the Michigan Pharmacy College at Grand Rapids, Michigan. Survivors include his wife, the former Helen Miller of Manilla, two children, Susan and Dannie, and his mother, Mrs. Charles Rocksien, who is living with his sister, Mrs. Glenn Plunkett (Pearl), at Corvallis, Oregon. He was a nephew of Miss Jennie Parker and Charles Parker of Manning. His father preceded him in death. Lt. Rocksien was a member of the Manning Methodist church and the Masonic lodge here. |

Lee Rocksien
Lee C. Rocksien, son of Charles and Ida (Parker) Rocksien, was born January 14, 1908. He
was a 1925 graduate of Manning High School, a 1930 graduate of the University of Iowa, and
received his M.S. degree from Iowa in 1931.
Rocksein taught chemistry and pharmacy in the Pharmacy College of Grand Rapids
University in Michigan.
He entered the service in January, 1943, as a second lieutenant in anti-aircraft. He was later transferred to O.S.S., and promoted to first lieutenant. Lt. Rocksien suffered a heart attack one day before he was to have flown to Burma for active duty. He died December 4, 1944.
He was married to Helen Miller December 31, 1933, and she lived in Manilla. They had four children; Gay Ellen and Rosemary Helen are deceased, Susan Elizabeth (Mrs. Lonny Wieland) lives in Dubuque with their three children, and Daniel Lee lives in Manilla.
