Five-Star-Flag In Manning Window
Rothmeyer Sons in Widely Scattered Theatres
The five-star service flag in the window of the Mr. and Mrs. John Rothmeyer home at 714 First street, Manning, represents members of the family serving in theatres of operation throughout the world.
Those represented in the flag include four sons and a son-in-law, and their careers read something like this:

1. S. Sgt. Richard Rothmeyer entered the army Dec. 1, 1941, was in Alaska and the Aleutians for 18 months and got a medical discharge at Fort Benning, Ga., Oct. 28, 1944; after nearly three years of service.
2. Cpl. Andrew Rothmeyer entered the army June 4, 1942, was at Fort Riley, Kans., three months then went overseas and arrived in England in September 1942. He has been in France and is now in Germany.
3. Pfc. Mathias Rothmeyer entered the army April 4, 1944, and was stationed in camps in California and Texas until January 1945 and is now on duty in the Hawaiian Island's.
4. Walter Rothmeyer joined the navy April 4, 1945, and is taking boot training at the Great Lakes, Ill., naval training center.
5. Sgt. Edward Proulx, a son-in-law, is in the army and has been overseas since June 1944. For a time he was stationed in India and now is in Burma.

Walter Clarence Rothmeyer, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rothmeyer, 714 First street, is receiving his initial Naval indoctrination at the U. S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

His recruit training consists of instruction in seamanship, military drill and general navy procedure.
When his recruit training is completed, the seaman will receive a period of leave.


Walter Rothmeyer Leaves Navy Service
Walter C. Rothmeyer, S 1-c, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rothmeyer of 714 First street, Manning, was honorably discharged from the navy at Shoemaker, Calif., Aug. 12 after serving since Feb. 17, 1945.
Prior to entering service Water was employed at Priebe & Sons, Inc.


Walter Rothmeyer
Walter C. Rothmeyer, 57, of Westside, died Monday, April 30, 1984, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

He had operated a grocery store in Audubon for about a year before starting to farm south of Westside in 1954. For the past seven years he had been employed by St. Anthony Regional Hospital.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 1984, at the Church of St. Ann, Vail, with the Rev. Paul-Louis Arts as celebrant. Joe Schierbrock will be lector. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers will be Johnnie Stender, John Oeser, William Lawler, Conrad Schoessler, Earl Putt, and Al Dentlinger.

Military graveside honors will be accorded by Alfred R. Rossman Post No. 196, American Legion, of Westside.

Friends may call at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. A rosary and a scriptural prayer service will be conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Reesa on April 21, 1979; a brother, Andrew, and a sister, Martha, in infancy.

Mr. Rothmeyer was born February 19, 1927, at Festina, Iowa, a son of John and Lucy (Mattes) Rothmeyer. He attended several schools, including Dedham and Scranton, and from February of 1945 to August of 1946, served in the U.S. Navy.

On June 2, 1951, he was married to Lettie Frahm at Manning. They lived in Manning for a short time, then moved to Audubon where they ran the grocery store and after disposing of that business began farming.

He was a member of the Westside American Legion post, the Manning Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, and the Westside Community Club.
