Word has been received that Roy C. Whited of Denison passed away Monday, January 14, 2002. He was the husband of the former Manning resident, Marilyn Mohr, sister of Lila Schroeder, Marjorie Whited, Iva Hinze and Bud Mohr.

Roy C. Whited, 79, of Denison died Monday, January 14, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Presbyterian Church in Denison. Burial will be in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.

ROY C. WHITED
Roy C. Whited was born at Denison, Iowa, December 17, 1922, the son of John G. and Alice Mesenbrink Whited. He was raised at Denison where he was graduated from high school with the class of 1943.

During World War II, from July 28, 1943, until his discharge April 2, 1946, Roy served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Wyoming, USS Shangri La, USS Bogue, and USS Unimak. Upon completion of his service, he returned to Iowa and enrolled at Iowa State University in Ameswhere he studied Dairy Science.

On April 25, 1947, Roy was united in marriage with Marilyn J. Mohr at Denison. Their union was blessed with seven sons, Gary, Bruce, Dennis, Craig, Kyle, Brian, and Kelvin. They resided in Ames while Roy finished his education at Iowa State before moving to Sioux Rapids, Iowa, where they owned and operated the White Star Dairy for a short time until selling it. In 1949, they moved to Denison where Roy, in partnership with his brother, John, owned and operated the White Star Dairy until his retirement in 1984. Other business ventures that Roy and John were involved with included the Star Roller Skating Rink, Pee Wee Dairy Store, and the Ballantine Trailer Court. In his spare-time he enjoyed his hobbies of camping, fishing, coin collecting and restoring his 1935 Pontiac.

Marilyn died December 10, 1988. Roy continued to reside at their home in Denison where he remained active in his community and church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Golden K Club, and a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church where, in years at he had served as an Elder, Deacon, and was a member of their Mariners Club.

Roy died Monday morning, January 14, 2002, at his home in Denison. At the time of his death, he had attained the age of 79 years and 27 days.

Including his parents, his step-mother, Florence Whited and his wife, Roy was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Detlefsen, and one half-sister, Gloria Jean Whited.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include seven sons and their wives, Gary and Bette Whited of Madison, Wisconsin, Bruce and Patti Whited of Boston, Massachusetts, Dennis and Kate Whited of Lenexa, Kansas, Craig and Darlys Whited of Denison, Iowa, Kyle and Renee Whited of Eagle Lake, Minnesota, Brian and Janine Whited of Owatonna, Minnesota, and Kelvin and Beth Whited of Omaha, Nebraska, 19 grandchildren, his brother and business partner, John Whited and wife, Marjorie of Denison, Iowa, two sisters. Hertha Saxton of Quimby, Iowa, and Gladys Rusch of Schleswig, Iowa, two half-brothers and their wives, Dewey and Ann Whited of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Wilbur and Pat Whited of Cornelius, Oregon, nine half-sisters: Shirley Flores of Groesbeck, Texas. Rosalie and husband, Lloyd Williams of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Phyllis Schauf of Amarillo, Texas, Kathryn Wulf of Denison, Iowa, Peggy and husband, Eddie Shumate of Dunlap, Iowa, Ruby Ann Beermann of Denison, Iowa, Mildred and husband, Elmer Rusch of Denison, Iowa, Darlene and husband, Russell Justice of Irwin, Iowa, and Joleen Carstensen of Denison, special friend, Pearl Stepanek of Denison, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 17, 2002, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Thomas S. Buzbee officiating. Music for the service included Renee Claussen, singing "Old Rugged Cross" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and the congregation singing "Amazing Grace." Marilyn Jepsen served as organist. Casket bearers were Roy's sons, Gary, Bruce, Dennis, Craig, Kyle, Brian, and Kelvin.

Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.

The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
