Dean William, son of Orland and Ona (Voss) Fara, was born May 7, 1956, at Ames, Iowa. He moved with his family to Manning in 1966 and attended Manning Schools, graduating with the Manning High School class of 1974. Following graduation, he joined his family working at the Manning Ag Center.

On June 10, 1978, Dean was united in marriage with Kimberly Joy Doyle at the United Church in Westside. While Kim finished her degree in Iowa City, he worked for Eldon C. Stutsman, an ag supply business, in Hills. When they moved back to the area in 1980 they lived on a farm east of Irwin. Both of their daughters were born while the family lived on the farm. In 1992, Dean and his family moved to their home in Manning where he continued working with his family at the Manning Ag Center.

Dean was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church where he was very active. He was chair of the Strategic Planning Committee and past moderator of Prospect Hill Presbytery, served on several committees of the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, and was involved in the PC (USA) at the national level. Dean's love of music was shown through his participation in Church Choir, Leiderkranz, Manning's Blues Brothers and Alumni Pep Band. He was chair of the Manning Telecommunications Board, a past president and active member of Manning Rotary, and a member of the Manning Heritage Foundation as well as numerous other activities. He enjoyed home improvement projects and was well versed with the home computer and other home electronics.

Dean also enjoyed decorating their family house during the Christmas season

During the memorial service several people spoke about Dean's life.
One of them who spoke was 1974 Classmate Rick Lohrmann.
Rick talked about Dean's leadership in the community and in their class.
Rick said that Dean had now "led the way into Heaven" for their class.

Dean Fara may have said "Goodbye" but he won't be forgotten
